From Old Fabric to New Treasure – Reducing Textile Waste in Schools

This project empowers children and young people aged 8 to 14 to engage consciously with textiles and provides practical guidance on how to reduce waste and conserve resources. The goal is to introduce the topic of textile waste prevention early in the school curriculum and to promote sustainable thinking.
By combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience – such as repairing, upcycling, or creatively redesigning old textiles – students acquire valuable skills aligned with the principles of the circular economy. They learn that clothing and other textiles are valuable resources that do not belong in the trash.
The project strengthens young people’s environmental awareness and supports schools in implementing education for sustainable development in a practical and engaging way.

Partners & Funding

The project is co-financed by the Austrian Packaging Coordination Office (VKS).
